Welcome to GLUE, a project linking young people around the world as they
explore their built environment.

The world's great cities are the most diverse, dynamic, and exciting places on earth. Whether Tokyo, Mexico City, Lagos, or New York, a city reflects the height of civilization: millions of people living and prospering more peacefully than at any previous time in history. Cities today offer vast stores of architectural, cultural, historical, artistic and economic wealth.
At the same time, global population is growing rapidly, with urban areas increasing in population by more than 60 million people a year. This increase, an average growth rate of about 3.4 percent each year [and as high as 10% per year], adds an urban area roughly the size of London to the planet each month. There are currently 21 "megacities" with populations of over 10 million people -- and at least two [Mexico City and Calcutta] with populations over 20 million habitants! Such rapid urbanization produces great stress upon the earth's environment as well as the infrastructure and socioeconomic fabric of cities.
While cities reflect much of human kind's greatest accomplishments--and our greatest shortcomings--the sheer size and complexity of modern urban areas raise concerns about the present and future health and well-being of their growing populations.

GLUE is a place for young people to begin to explore the dynamics of cities: where they came from, how they grow, and where they are headed. At the same time, its a place to share stories about your home, your city. Over time, GLUE will become a record of cities around the world as they are documented by youth.

This site is intended to be an arts-based learning resource for both in-school and out-of school programs for youth around the world.
